Job Description
The Vice President of Finance will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the credit union, ensuring the organization’s fiscal health and long-term stability. The VP of Finance will lead the finance, accounting, and treasury functions, and work closely with the executive management team to develop and execute strategic plans. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can manage complex financial operations while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Financial Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization’s growth and operational efficiency, aligning with the credit union’s mission and goals. Provide financial insight to the executive team and board of directors.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Oversee the preparation of financial statements and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements (including NCUA, state regulators, and external audits). Ensure the credit union complies with all relevant financial regulations, laws, and standards.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Provide financial forecasts and develop models to project future financial performance.
- Asset & Liability Management (ALM): Manage the credit union’s assets and liabilities to maintain optimal liquidity, capital, and risk levels. Implement strategies for effective balance sheet management.
- Investment Management: Supports the management of the credit union’s investment portfolio, evaluating investment opportunities and monitoring portfolio performance.
- Oversee the management of investments, cash flow, and liquidity. Ensure that investment strategies align with the organization’s risk appetite and financial objectives.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture. Collaborate with other departments to promote sound financial practices across the organization.
- Risk Management: Work closely with the risk management team to identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks. Maintain robust internal controls and processes to safeguard the organization’s assets.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including auditors, regulators, and financial institutions. Build strong relationships with the board of directors, ensuring clear communication of financial performance and strategic initiatives.
- Has a general working knowledge and annual training of BSA/AML.
