Franklin Chamber Hosts Launch Johnson County Pitch Competition, Showcasing Local Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Franklin Chamber, in collaboration with Franklin College and the Town of Edinburgh, proudly hosted the second Launch Johnson County Pitch Competition on March 5 at Main & Madison Market Cafe. This event highlighted the innovative spirit of local entrepreneurs and their commitment to community development.
Five dedicated entrepreneurs shared their business ideas, each looking to make a significant impact in Johnson County. Jennifer Parker, founder of Cosmic Dog Bakery, was awarded the top honors of the competition and will receive a grant of $10,000. Jennifer hopes to expand her dog treat business and eventually have a cozy, pet-friendly storefront that provides freshly baked dog treats, pet supplies, and a welcoming environment for dog owners. Her mission is to create a community hub for pet lovers while supporting local animal welfare organizations through events and workshops.
The second-place award of $7,000 was presented to Abigail Splater and Sherri Sweet, a mother-daughter duo behind Sweet Stories, a future bookstore and coffee shop in Edinburgh. Inspired by their shared love of reading, their goal is to create an inclusive, inviting gathering space for all. “It’s partnerships like this that strengthen Johnson County,” said Sarahbeth Drybread, Economic Development Director for the Town of Edinburgh.
The judging panel for the event included Amy Richardson, co-owner of Main and Madison Market Cafe, Lauren Casey Bemis from Pence Media Group, and Bryan Epperson of A.W.E. Wealth Management. Their expertise offered valuable feedback on each pitch's potential.
The Launch Johnson County program supports entrepreneurs across Johnson County. By offering resources such as one-on-one mentoring, small group sessions, workshops, and pitch competitions, the initiative aims to empower local innovators.
Rosie Chambers, president/CEO of the Franklin Chamber adds, “Future plans for Launch Johnson County rely heavily on securing funding to sustain grant cycles.
