Franklin Chamber Co-Hosts Launch Johnson County Pitch Competition, Showcasing Local Entrepreneurial Spirit
The Franklin Chamber, in collaboration with Franklin College and the Town of Edinburgh, proudly co-hosted the inaugural Launch Johnson County Pitch Competition on October 29. This event highlighted the innovative spirit of local entrepreneurs and their commitment to community development.
Five dedicated entrepreneurs shared their business ideas, each looking to make a significant impact in Johnson County:
- Rhiannon Thunell – A glass artist based in Greenwood, Rhiannon seeks to expand her small business by offering glassblowing lessons and eventually having a physical storefront. Specializing in glow-in-the-dark and uranium glass, she aims to inspire and the community others through her art.
- Jennifer Parker – Founder of Cosmic Dog Bakery, Jennifer hopes to have a cozy, pet-friendly storefront that provides freshly baked dog treats, pet supplies, and a welcoming environment for dog owners. Her mission is to create a community hub for pet lovers while supporting local animal welfare organizations through events and workshops.
- Brandon Tungate – Brandon pitched the idea for Parkview Mini Golf, an 18-hole miniature golf course located in downtown Franklin. With a focus on a natural landscape and community engagement, Brandon's vision aims to enhance outdoor recreation options and attract visitors to the vibrant downtown area. Brandon was awarded the winner of the competition and will receive a prize of $10,000.
- Julius Choga – As the head of a full-service digital marketing agency, Julius presented plans to help local businesses elevate their online presence through web design, photography, and graphic design. With a commitment to showcasing local talent, Nyasha's agency will also feature prototypes and projects from Franklin College.
- Whitney Habig – Whitney proposed the idea of a “Lifestyle Market,” a versatile community hub designed to foster social connections. The space will host gatherings, workshops, and events while providing local artisans with a venue to sell their goods, all centered around creating a positive atmosphere for residents.
The judging panel for the event included Amy Richardson, co-owner of Main and Madison Market Cafe, Lauren Casey Bemis from Pence Media Group, and Bryan Epperson of A.W.E. Wealth Management. Their expertise offered valuable feedback on each pitch's potential.
The Launch Johnson County program supports emerging and existing entrepreneurs across Johnson County. By offering resources such as one-on-one mentoring, small group sessions, workshops, and pitch competitions, the initiative aims to empower local innovators.
