The Franklin Chamber Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Greater Franklin Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce two recipients of the inaugural young entrepreneur grant program. Each recipient will receive $500 to continue their projects. The grants are intended to assist with start-up or capacity building expenses, enabling young entrepreneurs to develop their business concept and gain valuable experience in the world of entrepreneurship.

Connor Baldwin, 16 created Baldwin Baits out of a passion for fishing. He creates custom orders tailored to location and conditions, recently making custom themed baits for Purdue and IU fishing teams. Connor is selling his product on-line, at local farmers markets and Honey Creek Tackle in Bargersville. In addition to being an avid fisherman, Conner plays men’s tennis and volleyball and is a volunteer for Kiwanis Club in Franklin. Conner plans to use the grand funds to purchase a new mold and supplies.

Hattie Lou Blooms, a cut flower business was started by Hattie Bennett, 11 just over a year ago. Hattie’s flower bouquets are cheerful and bright and can be found at local farmers markets or ordered on her website. Hattie plans to use the grant funds to establish perennial plugs which will be planted at Needham Elementary’s Kindness Garden in early spring of 2025. Additionally, Hattie donates 20% of per sales proceeds back to local organizations.

"We are proud to support both of these entrepreneurs through this pilot program," said Rosie Chambers, president/CEO of the Franklin Chamber. The pilot program was open to all residents of Johnson County under 18 years of age. Applicants were required to submit an application which outlines the project, sustainability and potential impact to the community. A panel of local business leaders and members of the Franklin Chamber Foundation reviewed the applications and selected these two worthy business ideas. A check presentation ceremony took place during Franklin Farmers Market Biz Kidz Day on Saturday, August 17.

"We believe that nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit at a young age is valuable for the economic future of our community," added Rosie Chambers. "By investing in our youth, we are investing in the future prosperity and innovation of Johnson County.” Funding for this pilot program is provided through donations and fundraising efforts of the Franklin Chamber Foundation.
